Spring Migration
along the Hudson River

A Spotted Sandpiper forages along the edge of the causeway at Iona Island on the west bank of the Hudson River, New York.

Notice that this sandpiper has just begun to molt into breeding plumage, with only a couple of spots on its left side.  It was April 19, so this is a migrant.

Watch for the characteristic tail bob of this species as it moves along the edge of the grass. looking for tasty morsels.
